SNL-John McCain On Saturday Night Live With Tina Fey-public speaking media training

When John McCain appeared in the opening segment of Saturday Night Live last night with Tina Fey reprising her SNL role as Sarah Palin, I thought McCain ended up looking weak, ridiculous, and worst of all, like a loser as I show with the clips in this video. You can see the entire November 1, 2008, Saturday Night Live skit from which I took a few short clips for my video on the NBC website at www.nbc.com www.tjwalker.com, http www.youtube.com www.speakingkeynote.com http www.amazon.com www.amazon.com www.mediatrainingworkshop.com http www.tjwalker.com www.tjwalker.com www.tjwalkerssecret.com http www.tjwalker.com

Using Live and In-person Training Can Boost Employee Communication Skills

Communication is a vital skill needed by every employee in your organization. Employees need to communicate effectively in several different ways in order to perform their jobs well. Be it giving presentations or other manner of offering ideas, having excellent communication skills is the key to success. If you are the individual in charge of your company’s employee training, using live and in-person communication training can provide a big boost to your employee’s communication skills.

An in-person

sales training can make a big impact on increasing your employee’s workplace communication skills. Gathering all employees together provides a convivial atmosphere that is conducive to a profitable learning experience for them. Being able to observe a nationally recognized trainer is a lesson in communication itself, one that will not be lost on your workers.

Trainers can use the in-person format of a training session to your employee’s learning advantage. The speaker can provide ample verbal and visual examples of the skills to be learned, and can have the class participants try out new skills in small groups, which can speed the learning curve immensely. Because all three methods of delivery–auditory, visual and kinesthetic–can be easily used when the trainer is in the room with the learners, all of your workers with their varying learning styles will be accommodated effectively.

Another method of presenting training is through the use of the Internet. Webinars, or live training seminars that are presented online, offer a convenient and cost-effective alternative to an in-person communications training session.

Webinars can be presented to groups of workers by using a projector with your computer, so that all can watch the training. Many webinars also provide a telephone number that you can call, and if a speaker phone is engaged, then groups of learners can listen in and benefit. Even though the speaker is not in the room with you, it provides an interactive aspect that is very helpful to learning.

Convenience is another attractive feature of the webinar format for communications training for employees. If your employees have Internet access at work, they can participate in a webinar from their own computers.

Some webinars are live, but many also come in a prerecorded format. This means that workers can watch and learn anytime that it fits into their work schedule. It also enables them to replay the presentation, for review and retention purposes.

All manner of communications skills can be taught live and in person. Giving effective presentations or helping your employees overcome anxiety when speaking in public can happen with this type of training. Communications training is key to employee success, and live and in-person trainings can give them the skills they need.

Jonathon Blocker hosts nationally recognized training seminars to offer new managers the opportunity to gain vital leadership skills and increase the productivity of sales teams. Improve business communication skills within your workforce by investing in communication skills training for your employees and managers.

Sales Presentation Skills: Make More Effective Live and Video Presentaions – Part One

Making a sales presentation, whether live or on video doesn’t have to be the gut wrenching experience you may think. By following a few guidelines, you can develop the sales presentation skills necessary to make presentations that are powerful, focused, deliver your message and leave your audience believing that you are the definitive authority on your chosen subject.

Notice the word focused. I can’t emphasize enough that to deliver an outstanding presentation you must be focused, almost laser-like from beginning to end. How many presentations have you heard, or seen where you started wishing the speaker would “get to the point already”? or, in the case of the internet, you click off what you thought was going to be a video chock full of useful information?

Sound familiar? Do the presentations and/or videos you make suffer from these common problems?

Typically, what this all boils down to is a lack of focus on the part of the presenter and the ability to stay focused on the subject material through out the presentation. This becomes particularly important if you are developing a video for the internet because you have very little time to establish your rapport with the viewer, and the length of your video is relatively short.

Alright then…how do I do it?

For the purpose of this writing I am going to talk about content…I realize that with video presentations all kinds of technical issues pop up. But lets face it. In the end it’s all about content. We’ll save technical aspects of video presentations for a later article.

OK then…lets get started.

Developing the sales presentation skills needed to make more effective presentations is not overly difficult, but will require a bit of work on your part. What I am going to do is lay out a format that you can follow that will allow you to focus on your issue(s), and stay focused on your issue(s), regardless if your presentation is 5 minutes or 50 minutes. No more putting together a couple of pages of random notes or cue cards and reading from them! This format has served me well and I know it will serve you well too!

In a nutshell the format is based on the rule of threes. That is, the presentation topic is divided and subdivided into three parts with previews, speaking points and recaps, (or summaries), at the end of each group of three in the main body of the presentation.. This makes it easy to present material, it makes it easy to comprehend material, it cuts down on questions, (or reinforces points in the case of a video presentation), and it lends itself very easily to any length of time you wish.

Here’s the format.

Tell ‘Em What You Want To Tell ‘Em Tell ‘Em Tell ‘Em What You said

May seem crazy, but that’s it! Well, it is a little more complicated, but describing it in this manner makes it easy to remember.

In my next article we will begin with the first of the three threes…Tell ‘Em What You Want To Tell ‘Em.
