Challenged with a brief to ‘tell the story of an arch’, they combined their research, design, drafting, model-making and presentation skills to great effect. Shown here is the testing to failure of Team AVB’s arch made from peat briquettes! The arch was loaded to 12kg before failure – caused in this instance through the development of a 4 hinge mechanism. Pause the clip at the 20/21 second interval to observe the failure mode closely.
